General mains AC produces many effects and you're subject to A LOT of it. Get a sensitive meter and check your voltage when ungrounded…several volts typically up into the double digits when it should be like 0.05 volts or so. Orders of magnitude over physiologic.
Then switch to the frequency and it'll usually show 60 Hz or very close.
