(1st Sentence) - The defendant has espoused extremist views for years.

This section of court doc lists documents retrieved from his computer, related to "extremist views" only going back to early 2017.
(For years? Really? 2017 is for years?) In the docs on his computer (he?) says, "I am a long time White Nationalist". The documents they quote him as writing talk about being an extremist for years.

If he really was this kind of extremist for years, why didn't the FBI discover any of it before?
Every service member, especially depending on clearance level has background checks done by the FBI. Supposed to anyway.
