I have been digging for about 3 years now on issues related to toxic exposures that governments and industries want to keep us in the dark about. A key book in my journey was a book called "The Poisoning of Michigan" by Joyce Egginton. This book is about a disaster that occurred in Michigan in the 1970s. When Q posted (in drop #2847) about chemical exposures, I was reminded of this book and the massive amount of digging that it got me started on. The Michigan disaster involved PBB (polybrominated biphenyls) which are related to PBDEs (which replaced PBBs). These chemicals have strange dose toxicity relationships because small doses can be ironically more dangerous than large. The chemicals cause endocrine disruption and in Michigan, girls exposed to PBB during the poisoning disaster experienced puberty a year earlier than normal. Fire retardant chemicals seem a bad lot in my opinion! I am glad Q has brought up this subject.
