Just seeing a clip with Kamala Harris talking about her support for reparations. She said that our country had over a 200 year history of slavery.

Actually, we declared ourselves a country in 1776 and slavery was abolished in many states from the beginning, I believe. Only a portion of the states had slavery for less than 90 years.

Further, most citizens in those states did not have slaves. On top of which, there were free blacks who owned slaves. If they think this is a serious matter, let's have a complete picture.

My ancestors were unjustly kicked off their land in Canada. They had cultivated that land and it was well over 100 years they lived there. Does any Cajun ever suggest that Canada must give us reparations?? Not any one I know. In fact, I thank God that my ancestors wound up settling in the USA – or what became the USA. BTW, some were made slaves for a time. Families were separated and never reunited on this side of Heaven – not to mention those who died in the dispersia.

Everyone's ancestors had great difficulties. Those who succeed in life take ownership of their own lives and don't look for the scam way out.

After reading a book on the history of the Cajuns, I realized how cruel the British were even to their own children. They sold their children out to make money for themselves. When the British forced the Cajuns out of Acadia, they sent some into the colonies and put them in horrible conditions. In order to make them pay for things the British sold or rented out the Cajun children. These people valued family in a way the British didn't. Amazing the difference between various cultures.
