Ran up to the roof just now to check, have a clear view from Hollywood sign (valley side) all the way to Westlake and North Hills. Only one police chopper (?) moving slowly above the Cahuenga Pass (Hollywood area) and a few scattered planes. No military presence I could see.

The Second Great Awakening resulted in mass areas of "burned over districts" where the false gospel that was often spread lead to the wide-spread failure of earlier, more Biblical denominational forms of Christianity. We are still paying for the Second Great Awakening today.
Which direction were they flying? I'm all the way across the valley opposite Hollywood, so the few seconds it took me to get to the roof wouldn't have been enough. If they were flying directly north/northwest from Hollywood, however, they may have been too far away for me to tell what they were.
