Perhaps it's a slang thing?
Like when a Marine goes into battle with another Marine.
Afterward, they would be like actual brothers.
Or, if that bond was with an older/higher-ranking Marine, an uncle or father.
I'm not trying to be racist, but don't colored families tend to take that type of thing to heart?
WAY more than your typical white family from what I've seen at any rate.
