You need to do a thorough look at radiation and how it interacts with matter. You'll find that as energy increases (wavelengths get shorter) there is a point where it becomes ionizing radiation. This means that it knocks electrons out of their orbit. Doing this to you cells causes chemistry changes that can be lethal to the cell. There's more to it than that, but if you are concerned than you owe it to yourself to do a search on the subject.
