GeologyFag here, it was my major not actual geologyfag, regarding J&J baby powder. The mineral talc is often formed directly next to crystallized arsenic. During Field Studies we were cautioned not to dig around or touch the talc layers in southern Utah because of the high arsenic levels. We had the long arsenic crystals pointed out to us that grow like wood grain. So my conclusion is the arsenic is in the talc when they mine it; the evil comes from not separating it out as arsenic would probably require a chemical process. Basically it would effect the J&J bottom line. But yes, arsenic would be present in any mined talc unless removed. There’s probably lots of fraudulent science to hide the arsenic. That’s why I never pursued science as a career after college, fraud was rampant and apparent.
