Collapse of EU superstate? Euroskeptics could paralyze Brussels after May elections

Anti-EU parties are set to gain a third of European parliamentary votes in May, a new study says. Analysts warn it may bring down the whole political system in Europe, leaving Brussels powerless, RT.com reports.

The European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) report describes the vote as “the most consequential parliamentary vote in the EU’s history” and says it is even possible for Euroskeptic parties to gain more than 30 percent of the EP’s seats “if their popularity continues to grow or if some of the fringe members of the mainstream join them.”

The report argues that if such a situation occurs, the EU could find itself “living on borrowed time” and outlines ways that various anti-EU parties could align with each other to garner more power in Brussels.

The shaky situation in Europe is the result of the EU “trying to get rid of nationhood” and the fact that EU institutions are “too remote from the individual citizens,” Jon Gaunt, a UK radio host, journalist and political commentator, told RT. That point was also reflected in the report which acknowledged that anti-EU parties are advocating a return to a “Europe of the nations” instead of what Gaunt described as a “non-democratic superstate.”

If anti-establishment parties gain more influence in EU politics, they could defuse arguments made by pro-EU parties that the project is”imperfect but capable of reform”, the report said.

25 MS-13 gang members found in migrant caravan at border, then deported

A caravan of around 1,600 migrants that arrived two weeks ago from Central America was found to have MS-13 gang members from El Salvador hiding among them.

They were all staying at a federally operated facility in Piedras Negras, Coahuila when officials discovered who they were, FOX News reported.

In all, some 25 MS-13 gang members were deported across two related incidents.

Officials from the Instituto Nacional de Migración identified 10 MS-13 gang members when the caravan first arrived, but 15 more were identified last week when there was an incident with police and the caravan, according to INM Media Deputy Director Aline Juarez.

Air Force Academy installs thousands of cameras for cadet safety

The U.S. Air Force Academy has installed several thousand closed-circuit TV cameras on campus over the past year to create a safer environment for cadets and to deter criminal behavior.

The cameras were mentioned by Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria, the academy’s superintendent, during testimony Feb. 13 before a subcommittee hearing of the House Appropriations Committee about the military service academies. The superintendents of each military service academy testified nearly two weeks after the Pentagon released its annual report on sexual assault and harassment at the academies.

The report’s anonymous scientific survey found that 747 students said they experienced unwanted sexual contact within the last year, a nearly 50 percent increase from 507 students in 2016.

During the hearing Rep. John Carter, R-Texas, discussed how male and female cadets live in the dorms of the academies within their cadet companies and what can be done about their behavior when leaders are not there.

“How do we fix that in the military… so, you can’t lay the blame on the officer, he won’t see these things happening while he’s there; they will happen while he’s not there. … There’s so much (that) goes on (at) college campuses right now it’s unbelievable. But yet we’re holding you to a standard of honor,” he said. “And how do we reach that? I don’t know the answer.

University student suspended for criticising halal slaughter and the Islamisation of Britain

A student and Ukip member who claimed healthcare should not be free to migrants and lamented about the Islamisation of Britain has been kicked out of his university.

Sebastian Walsh expressed his controversial opinions during class seminars and the University of Central Lancashire decided to suspend him after they received several complaints about his behaviour.

The 19-year-old student also branded halal meat ‘barbaric’ and ‘inhumane’ and vowed to friends he would never eat at Subway or KFC due to the way the animals are killed.

The self-proclaimed ‘free speech advocate’ claims being struck-off from university is a violation of his human rights.

“It all started off in a lesson when we were allowed to go off for a break. I went over to another table to try and socialise because everyone was still pretty new. I was trying to make friends with some more people,” he says.

“All I did was voice my opinions during debates about immigration. We got onto the conversation of food and what takeaways we ate. Now, I went over there not intending to cause a debate. I just mentioned that I would never touch Subway or KFC because they use halal meat in their products. I don’t agree with barbaric slaughter on any sort of animals for a religion.”

“I also mentioned that we have 30-40 Sharia courts in this country which openly discriminate against women. If in our country we believe in equal opportunities for men and women why do we allow this? I just don’t agree with those courts and how they treat women.”

The Identity Theft Resource Center has noted an unprecedented surge in hacking activities relating to the breaching of individual personal records in 2018 in their recent research. According to their study, most of these activities were primarily attributed to the continual use and reuse of individuals’ password and usernames as well as the vulnerability posed by third-party vendors. As claimed by experts, the breached data does not end there as they are exposed and sold on the dark web. In this case, cybercriminals purchase the data and use the information to gain illegal access to targeted websites. The hacking of personal records reached an unprecedented high of nearly a half billion in 2018, according to ITRC.
