Who burnt the truck? Venezuelan FM says ‘false flag expert’ Pompeo should look among his ‘agents’

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza has challenged US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo amid border clashes over US aid. He lashed at Pompeo and his 'hitmen' saying they were searching for the pretext for war.

"The CIA expert in false flag operations, Pompeo, thinks he can fool the world with a truck set ablaze by his own agents in Colombia," Arreaza tweeted on Saturday in response to recent clashes along the Venezuelan-Colombian border.

The opposition-led attempt to drive trucks from Colombia into Venezuela carrying what they say was humanitarian supplies provided by USAID sparked tensions and clashes with police. The Venezuelan government refused to let the trucks through, denouncing the operation as a PR stunt and warning that the vehicles may be loaded with weapons.

The standoff at the Francisco de Paula Santander Bridge near the Venezuelan city of Urena ended with one of the trucks being burnt out. It is still not clear who was responsible for setting the truck ablaze.

In his tweet, Minister Arreaza posted several photos which appear to show the burnt truck on the Colombian side of the bridge, where it was set on fire after failing to cross the border.

— Jorge Arreaza M (@jaarreaza) 24 февраля 2019 г.

"If you want to find those who burnt the truck with fake humanitarian aid, look among your own employees," Arreaza wrote.

Pompeo and his hitmen are desperately searching for a pretext for war.

Mike Pompeo, who previously led the CIA, had earlier denounced Venezuela’s refusal to let the trucks in. Calling the nation’s President Nicolas Maduro a "sick tyrant," he vowed to "take action" against authorities who "oppose the peaceful restoration of democracy."

City welcome sign with Islamist woman in hijab sparks outrage in Sweden

On a digital advertising board at the entrance to Gävle in Sweden, a Muslim woman in a hijab has welcomed visitors to the city in the past week.

In a comment published on Facebook Gävle Municipality writes that Gävle is a city of “great diversity”.

“The woman in the ad is one of Gävle’s many Muslim women and she has chosen to wear the hijab because she wants to and because she feels like herself in it”, writes director of communications Johan Adolfsson.

Adolfsson is among other things known as one of the authors of the book “Pictures that change the world” – a guide on gender consciousness that calls for discrimination against whites, Christians and heterosexuals.

Socialism is alive and kicking in South America

South America has one of the largest concentration of States in the world that would call themselves socialists. Although there are other countries with left-wing governments, this political doctrine seems to have settled more strongly in this continent. With approximately as many nations that have welcomed right wing or Christian-Democratic heads of State, as those which stand-out with a radical left-wing government, overall, South America stands as a spot with a large amount of supporters of the validity of socialism.

The key issue in finding the reason for a concentration of socialist nations in such a specific part of the globe are the arguments for which it remains to succeed amongst a part of the population, and more interestingly, the views of the rest of the world.

Amongst all South American countries seeking the proletariat’s dictatorship, one has gained particular prominence lately: Venezuela. The impact produced by Hugo Chavez in international politics may remind in short-term history of Fidel Castro’s speeches in 1959 after taking over Havana. After an attempted coup d’état in 1992 and a subsequent two-year imprisonment, Chavez ran for the 1999 national elections with the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, of Marxist ideology. During these eleven years in power, he has been as controversial for his national and foreign policies, as for his manners. A public detractor of the United States foreign policy, especially during the years of the Bush administration, and reluctant to globalisation, he has always manifested very clearly his aspirations to be a supranational organisation in South America and the Caribbean to achieve self-governing policies and independence from wealthier European and American countries.

The Jury Is In: Latin America’s 21st Century Socialism Has Failed

Last updated May 20, 2016

EspañolAt the beginning of the century, it was conceivable to think of Latin America as being in a socioeconomic and cultural movement completely dictating the political destiny of South America.

The movement was best known as “Socialism of the 21st Century” Disguised with attractive symbols of love, brotherhood, equality, and freedom, and represented by charismatic leaders like Che Guevara, the movement quickly positioned itself as a new solution to our problems.

But today the results are clear: the bet on socialism in Latin America has failed.

In Argentina, disapproval toward the end of Cristina Kirchner‘s second term was high due to an acute economic crisis caused by mismanagement of monetary policy, excessive controls, and endless corruption scandals involving high-ranking public officials, including the president herself.

The recent elections eventually gave a crushing blow to the Argentinean status quo, with the victory of current President Mauricio Macri.

Proof of Extensive Cuban Military Presence in the Venezuelan Armed Forces

While Cuba angrily denies it has a military presence in Venezuela, the evidence to the contrary is overwhelming.

Cuba’s foreign minister, Bruno Rodriguez, reacted with anger to statements offered Monday by the president of the United States, Donald Trump, in Florida in support of Venezuela and its struggle to rid itself of the socialist dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro, whom he termed a “puppet” of Havana. He also accused Cuba of using its armed forces to exert control over the South American country.

This Tuesday, in a press conference, he described as “outrageous” Trump’s accusation that the island “maintains a private army in Venezuela…I’m asking you to present evidence. Our government rejects that slander in the strongest and most categorical terms,” Rodriguez said on the Twitter account of the Cuban Foreign Ministry.

When we discuss “a private army in Venezuela” as Rodriguez says, the issue really involves the presence of Cuban military personnel in the country, and years of close collaboration with the objective of controlling the Armed Forces of Venezuela.

Socialism Is Dying Everywhere – Except The U.S.

Socialism: Around the world, nations that have been foolish enough to adopt socialist policies either collapsed or are well on their way to doing so. Why, then, are so many in the U.S. enthralled with the idea?

A quick look at the world's countries in direst economic shape reveals that many, if not most, have one thing in common: They rely on top-down socialist control, rather than free markets, to run their economies. The former, history amply shows, are doomed to fail. There are no long-term socialist success stories. None.

France, for instance, elected a socialist, Francois Hollande, as president in 2012. Today, France suffers a 10.3% jobless rate and 25% youth unemployment. Growth is less than 1%. To France's credit, it's recently recognized that the job market must be reformed to give businesses more incentives to hire and train new workers.

Brazil, meanwhile, impeached Socialist President Dilma Rousseff for corruption, but her damage to the economy will last. As recently as 2010, Brazil was considered a bright star. It was awarded both an Olympics and a World Cup because of it. Last year, as Rousseff's massive borrowing and spending choked the economy, GDP shrank 3.8% and joblessness soared. Interim President Michel Temer has vowed to roll back Rousseff's socialism.

Imperialism and socialism in the context of Africa

Please note: This topic's content was written in 2003 and is part of the old curriculum content, we have modified it slightly to fit the new curriculum but we will be further updating the content in the coming months.

Many countries in the world experienced imperialism when they were taken over and ruled by a more powerful country. The main motive for imperialism was to obtain and control a supply of raw materials for industries. This meant that a weaker country with abundant natural resources would be colonised. Imperialists were often brutal in the way they treated the indigenous population. Sometimes they chose a less aggressive approach, obtaining the co-operation of the local people and working with their traditional rulers and social and political structures and practices.

This section is quite long so we have broken it into two pages: Defining Imperialism

In the late 18th century, life in Europe and America changed dramatically. Revolutions in America and France ushered in a new political order. The Industrial Revolution in Britain modernised farming, the processing of raw materials and manufacturing of goods. Later industrialisation spread to Europe and to the USA. Economic progress came at the cost of rapid urbanisation and social problems. Industrialisation also influenced political change. Britain developed into a democracy as a result. Industrialisation created a huge demand for raw materials and led to the colonisation of Africa and Asia for these resources. Industrialisation and technological progress boosted European and American confidence, and national pride. They became convinced that they were superior. Their lust for power climaxed in the two World Wars of the 20th century.

Texas Doctor and Hospital Owner Convicted in Multimillion Dollar Health Care Fraud Scheme

A federal jury found an internal medicine doctor and hospital owner guilty today for their roles in a multimillion health care fraud scheme, announced Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Patrick of the Southern District of Texas.

Following a two-week trial, Harcharan Narang, 50, of Houston, Texas, and Dayakar Moparty, 47, of Houston, Texas, were found guilty of one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud, 17 counts of health care fraud and three counts of money laundering. Sentencing is set for June 20, before U.S. District Judge Sim Lake of the Southern District of Texas, who presided over the trial.

Narang is a physician who owned and practiced at North Cypress Clinical Associates in Cypress, Texas. Moparty managed and operated Red Oak Hospital (Red Oak) in Houston, Texas. During the trial, evidence was admitted showing that Narang and Moparty unlawfully enriched themselves by submitting false and fraudulent claims for medical tests that were not medically necessary and/or not provided and then billed at Red Oak Hospital at a higher reimbursement rate.

Additionally, Narang and his co-conspirators falsified home health patient assessment forms to make the beneficiaries appear sicker on paper than they actually were, to receive higher reimbursement rates from health care benefit programs such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna and Aetna, the evidence showed. Moparty also instructed his employees to falsely bill the medical services at Red Oak and other entities associated with Moparty, when in fact the patients never received services at Red Oak and the other entities.

The Lost History of FDR’s Court-Packing Scandal

Some Democrats are talking about adding justices to the bench. But new revelations show almost no one understands what really happened back in the 1930s.

Americans spent much of 2018 with their eyes trained on the Supreme Court—from its rulings on presidential travel bans and public employee unions to Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation battle, the most heated confirmation battle in modern memory. So it should be no surprise that many are talking about ways to reform the court.

Some Democrats even want to revive the most famous, or infamous, attempt at Supreme Court reform in history: President Franklin Roosevelt’s proposal to “pack” the court with extra justices in 1937. In Philadelphia this week, presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, mayor of South Bend, Indiana, said that court packing was “no more a departure from norms than what the Republicans did to get the judiciary to the place it is today.”

FDR’s court-packing battle is one of the best-known constitutional struggles in U.S. history. The story, as it’s often been told, pits an entrenched, reactionary Supreme Court, which overturned a slew of Roosevelt’s New Deal economic reforms, against a hubristic president willing to take the unprecedented step of asking Congress to appoint six new, and sympathetic, justices to the bench. Only a national outcry against this unconstitutional skulduggery, along with a newly cowed court, who began upholding Roosevelt’s laws, stopped the plan.
