I use Photoscape for inserting text onto/into an image. Fairly easy and font size, style, color is available. Can move anywhere in the image.

True. I d/l gimp last night. It's complicated but good. I spent hours starting on a gif and didn't get very far. At this rate of learning, it's gonna take me weeks to get one gif made. Also d/l kdenlive to use with animating it but haven't tried it yet.
