Hong Kong police were investigating the deaths of a family of three in Western district after their bodies were found in a flat on Monday night.

The decomposing bodies were discovered in Evergreen Tower in the Western Garden estate on Second Street after firefighters forced open the door of the family’s flat.

Police confirmed the bodies were of a man, 42, woman, 40, and a seven-year-old boy.

Officers attended the scene following a call at about 8.20pm from a person who detected a strong odour and was worried there was a gas leak. Firefighters, who confirmed there was no gas leak, suspected the deaths might be related to charcoal burning.
