Democratic Representative Joaquin Castro of Texas introduced on February 22 a resolution seeking to block Trump from declaring a national emergency. 226 House lawmakers are co-sponsoring it.

One Republican, Representative Justin Amash of Michigan, is co-sponsoring the legislation as well.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Joaquin Castro, the author of the resolution, argued that Trump's emergency declaration undermined Congress's constitutional power of the purse.
