Univision journalist Jorge Ramos and his team have been detained while interviewing Venezuelan President Nicolรกs Maduro, the network says. Details are still limited.
Ramos, a U.S. citizen who was born in Mexico, was interviewing Maduro at the Miraflores Palace when they were detained, according to the network. Ramos managed to call a colleague before his phone was taken.
The reason for their detention was not immediately clear, but U.S. Senator Marco Rubio claimed Ramos was detained because Maduro โdidnโt likeโ his questions.
Kimberly Breier, an official at the U.S. State Department, confirmed Ramos and his team were being held against their will. โWe insist on their immediate release; the world is watching,โ she said.
