The people watching know Cohen better than JJ. Stop trying to take part of a sentence and make it into something it's not.
He is as stupid as he looks. He's self serving and self grandizing. He did it to pay back Potus for cutting him off and not pardoning him for his crimes. He's also doing it for a lighter sentence.
