I use DDG for meme material all the time.
It simply does not have as large a database or as elaborate search algos as Google.
If I can't find something I can use on DDG, then I'll search for images on Google and usually find something different.
They definitely don't index the exact same sets of web content, and their search algorithms are different.
I don't care - DDG is my go-to search engine anyway, with Google used only when I can't find what I need.
