Harvard coddles students with campus ‘climate’ probe over Weinstein lawyer fiasco

Harvard is launching a probe into the ‘climate’ of the university after widespread rage over a law professor's decision to represent Harvey Weinstein, worried the decision to let him have a lawyer has offended the student body.

Law professor and Faculty Dean Ronald Sullivan’s announcement in January that he would be defending the disgraced Hollywood mogul sparked outrage throughout the university. His decision was met with student demonstrations, calls for his resignation and even acts of vandalism at the Ivy League campus. The university hosted several “listening-sessions” in response and announced the launch of a so-called “climate review.”

The concept seems somewhat opaque. The school would collect “anonymous” information about student experiences following Sullivan’s announcement. The email was, however, not clear on what exactly a “climate review” is or aims to accomplish, other than to “assess the situation.”

“When climate concerns arise in a faculty-led unit, the College and the FAS have procedures in place to gather additional information to assess the situation and to provide confidentiality to those participating in the information gathering process,” Dean of the College Rakesh Khurana wrote in the email.

As the Google trend analysis below shows, the former received a ridiculous amount of coverage while the latter received almost zero.

Following the State of the Union address, I found the state of the nation surreal. I kept skimming past articles about the Democratic Party’s proposed economic stimulus packages, collectively known as the Green New Deal.

They propose to fund unsustainable sectors like solar panels—which are already heavily government-backed—by targeting more self-sufficient industries, like meat production. In order to earmark raiding the cookie jar of productive businesses to fund those that aren’t paying for themselves, Democrats have to demonize the target in order to implement punitive measures such as meat taxes.

I know the Green New Deal is based on non-truths and artfully doled misinformation, like the deforestation myth, but most people believe we are losing forest land in this country to the meat industry. That’s one of the lies told to them by our leaders in order to take advantage of the public support and vote. They need a mob to rob.

Canadian Opposition Urges PM Trudeau to Resign Over SNC-Lavalin Affair - Report

The opposition statement came Wednesday after then-Canadian justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould testified earlier in the day that Trudeau's staff had allegedly exerted pressure on her over the SNC-Lavalin scandal, Reuters reported.

The leader of Canada's main opposition party Andrew Scheer demanded that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau quit over the SNC-Lavalin case. "He can no longer, with a clear conscience, continue to lead this nation", Scheer told reporters, cited by Reuters, calling for police to immediately probe the case.

Salvini considers seizing control Of Italy’s gold reserves

Italy’s deputy prime minister Matteo Salvini shocked banksters in Brussels and Rome after he floated the idea of seizing the enormous gold reserves from the Bank of Italy, the country’s central bank.

According to the Financial Times, in a comment given to Italian reporters, Salvini stated that, “The gold is the property of the Italian people, not of anyone else.”

Italian media outlets have suggested that the populist coalition government of Salvini’s League and Di Maio’s Five Star Movement could be considering using some of the central bank’s gold reserves to fund spending plans.

Salvini has said that he hasn’t looked deeply into the concept of selling the Bank of Italy’s gold reserves to finance additional government spending, but that “it could be an interesting idea.”

“Shadow Banks” Dominate Mortgage Lending by Piling on Risks. FHA on the Hook.

Lovingly known as “shadow banks,” nonbanks have come to dominate the mortgage market. And they originate the riskiest mortgages. The government — mostly the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) — is on the hook. Nonbanks do not take deposits and are not regulated by banking regulators (Federal Reserve, FDIC, and OCC). Their funding is derived mostly from selling the mortgages they originate, but also from bank loans and other sources. During the mortgage crisis, a slew of them got in trouble and, because they did not hold deposits, were allowed to collapse unceremoniously.

Today, there’s a new generation of shadow banks dominating mortgage lending. According to a February 2019 report by the Mortgage Bankers Association, the share of mortgage originations by nonbank lenders has surged from 24% in 2008 to 54% in 2017, while the share of large banks has plunged:
