According to Vietnamese papers today, KJU is still in Hanoi for talks with the Vietnamese leadership. They're not talking about what's on the agenda.
KJU is still in Hanoi and meeting with the Vietnamese government.
This is the first visit to Vietnam by a NK leader since KJU's grandfather came to Hanoi to meet with Ho Chi Minh in 1964.
NK has in the past been miffed at Vietnam getting close economically to South Korea. (In Saigon today, there are whole neighborhoods where Korean is the primary language – lots of Korean manufacturing going on in Vietnam.) Now Vietnamese companies are talking about investing in NK.
Pompeo talking today about how the U.S. would take military action in the South China Sea under the USA's Mutual Defense Treaty with Philippines.
If such action were to occur, Trump would probably want to get Filipino and Vietnamese forces involved as part of a 'coalition to keep the shipping lanes open'.
So I see that as part of the rationale for the trip & for choosing Vietnam.
Very dicey though since half or more of Vietnamese military officers are on the ChiCom payroll.
I know that for several years the U.S. Navy has been approaching the Vietnamese mil about leasing Cam Ranh Bay (near the city of Nha Trang in south-central Vietnam – this was a Soviet naval base from around 1975 to 1990).
Up until now the answer has always been No, but who knows, it might become a Yes if the U.S. would agree to help Vietnam defend its claims in the Spratlys and Paracels.
During the Hussein admin, there were rumors that the U.S. had loaned missiles to Vietnam which they placed in their northern provinces (Cao Bang, Quang Ninh, Ha Giang) to defend against a Chinese attack. However I could never find anything to substantiate those rumors and I presume it was all smoke.
"predatory behavior"
come to think of it, he acts exactly the way one would expect he would… if he were inhabited by a demonic entity.
