You can "mill" your own. Just buy an "80% polymer lower" to build either a Glock or AR. You only need basic tools to mill the final 20% remaining. Then you can just buy the upper online, from eBay or wherever. Shit, you could pay cash for the upper at a gun-shop and not leave any paper-trail. The lower is legally the "gun" and the part that gets tracked. But legally (check your state laws), you don't even have to register it, unless you ended up having to sell it for some reason. Then, it has to be given a serial number and manufacturer name (i.e. "#001 Made By Gunfag") and sold appropriately. They cannot be manufactured with the intent to sell, however.

In the end, you can have yourself a custom weapon that you know inside and out, built to your specifications and modified in a manner you see fit.

Be careful though… Legality on these is sketchy in some states.
