Many smart TVs have automatic content recognition (ACR) technology that listens to the audio stream to determine what content is playing. You may recall Vizio had an issue early on about not notifying consumers. Now they provide a warning about not disclosing personal information around the TV – like SS number, etc.
Mobile apps of course do the same.
