Democrats omitted “so help me God” from the swearing-in of people testifying before a committee on Feb. 28, sparking criticism from a Republican on the committee.

Video footage from the start of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Rights & Liberties shows Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) starting the hearing by asking three people set to testify to be sworn-in.

“Do you swear or affirm under penalty of perjury that the testimony that you’re about to give is true and correct to the best of your knowledge, information, and belief?”

Cohen asked the trio. They all said yes.

Venezuela’s Guaido Says 600 Military Officers Have Abandoned Maduro

ASUNCION–Venezuelan interim president leader Juan Guaido, visiting Paraguay on March 1 to raise support for a change of government in his country, said that 600 members of the military had abandoned illegitimate socialist dictator President Nicolas Maduro in recent days.

Venezuela’s National Assembly declared Maduro a usurper in January and invoked the constitution to hand the interim presidency to Guaido. The United States and 50 Western nation recognized Guaido as the legitimate leader since.

However, Maduro still retains the loyalty of the bulk of Venezuela’s armed forces and controls state institutions.

“In the next few hours we will announce new protest marches,” Guaido said in Asuncion at a news conference, after meeting with Paraguayan leader Mario Abdo, who received Guaido as a head of state.

Brother of Hassan Benkhedda says Algerian authorities and 'thugs' are responsible for his death.

The son of Algeria's first prime minister has died while taking part in a protest against President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's bid for a fifth term in office, a government official and a family member said on Saturday.

Interior Minister Noureddine Bedoui identified the man as Hassan Benkhedda, a son of the late Benyoucef Benkhedda, who took power after the country gained independence from France in 1962.

Authorities recover cockpit voice recorder from Amazon Air plane crash site in Texas

The National Transportation Safety Board says it has recovered the cockpit voice recorder from the muddy Texas bay where an Atlas Air Boeing 767 cargo jet crashed last weekend.

Three crew members were killed in the Feb. 26 crash into Trinity Bay, near Anahuac, Texas. The plane was part of the Amazon Air package delivery fleet, and was nearly at the end of a scheduled Miami-to-Houston flight when it nose-dived into the bay’s shallow waters.

Investigators have been searching for the cockpit voice recorder as well as the plane’s other “black box,” the flight data recorder. Two bodies have been found amid the widely scattered wreckage, along with partial human remains that may be associated with the third fatality.

Last year, the Golden State Killer was finally apprehended. This week, in El Dorado County, California the killer of a teen girl and young woman in Lake Tahoe during the late '70s was caught using "an emerging DNA technique" as CBS News put it. But is that "new technique" a gross violation of the 4th amendment? Once this is allowed, what could be next for criminals, suspects and innocent private citizens?
