Accordng to a guy I knew who worked for Boeing on the Space Shuttle, the SR-71 was much faster than it's acknowledged speed. I recall him saying 9,000 mph+. Understand that they kept this plane secret for something like 21 years and only dsclosed it when they were ready to discontinue its use.
