NEW ORLEANS —"Two are dead after a motorist struck them and several others Saturday evening on Esplanade Avenue, police said.

New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson, during a media briefing Saturday, said that police believe eight people were struck by the suspect, two of whom died.

Ferguson said the individual was quickly arrested because citizens in the area stepped in to stop him from leaving the scene of the car crash only to discover that the suspect had struck the victims, some who were on bicycles."
