Former White House counsel Don McGahn will rejoin his long-time law firm, he confirmed to the Washington Post on Sunday.
McGahn, who departed the White House in October, said he will be rejoining Jones Day sometime this month.
“I’m just going to practice law. No paid corporate speeches and no books, unlike some others who have worked in the White House.”
He played a particularly large role in the confirmations of Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.
Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told the Post that McGahn will remain involved with the nomination process.
“We keep in touch and talk from time to time,” McConnell said. “Some would argue we were co-conspirators going back to the 2016 campaign, where we worked on the number one priority I had and the president had.”
Two Senate GOP aides told the Post that McGahn has recently reached out to lawmakers to boost Neomi Rao, Trump’s nominee to replace Kavanaugh on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
