Did Bolton Blow North Korea?

President Trump’s second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un last week was criticized by both parties in Washington long before Air Force One even touched down in Hanoi. Washington’s political class seemed terrified that the nearly 70 year state of “war” with North Korea might actually end. In the end the only positive thing they could say about the meeting was that Trump apparently walked away with nothing to show for it.

The location of the meeting – Hanoi, Vietnam – serves as a great example of what can be won in peace versus what is lost in war. After losing nearly 60,000 US service members in an unnecessary war that took a million Vietnamese lives, the US loss of the Vietnam war resulted not in a communist takeover of southeast Asia but something very different: the domino theory failed because communism was destined to fail. Now we are close trading partners with an increasingly pro-market Vietnam. The result of trade and exchange versus war is a better life for all.

Unfortunately for Washington, the real lesson of Vietnam has not been learned. That is why the Republicans, Democrats, and the entire mainstream media spoke as one against President Trump’s decision to take a bold step and actually meet again, one-on-one, with one of our “enemies” to see if we can avoid nuclear conflict.

One leading Democrat, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA), attacked Trump for meeting with Kim because speaking to the North Korean “gives him legitimacy.” Does it make any sense that we should not even speak with our nuclear-armed adversaries because it gives them “legitimacy”? He’d rather have a nuclear war as long as Kim remains “illegitimate”? This is sadly the kind of thinking that prevails in Washington.

The media reported that Trump walked away from the meeting before the scheduled signing ceremony and closing press event. The talks broke down, it was reported, because Kim demanded an end to all sanctions before any reduction in North Korea’s nuclear arsenal. Washington sighed with relief and said all together, “better no deal than a bad deal.”

Meanwhile the North Koreans held a rare press conference clarifying that they only asked for partial sanctions relief in exchange for dismantling one of their main nuclear facilities. Further, press reports began to surface that National Security Advisor John Bolton threw additional demands on the table which led Kim to draw the meeting to an early close.

Who’s telling the truth? We likely won’t know. But given Bolton’s strong opposition to any kind of peace agreement with North Korea it’s hard to doubt that he had something to do with the blow-up of the summit. As the New York Times reported over the weekend, while Trump’s advisors were shocked when he decided to meet Kim face-to-face the first time for negotiations, John Bolton wasn’t worried at all. As the Times writes, “Mr. Bolton told colleagues not to worry. The negotiations, he said, would collapse on their own.” And so they did.

Will Trump continue to allow his diplomatic efforts to be undermined by his own staff? Let’s hope the president will ignore Washington, ignore the neocons, and continue to work for peace with North Korea.

Questions Arise If Indian Airstrikes In Kashmir Were A “Election Gimmick” As Tensions Subside

Tensions seem to be subsiding on the Line of Control between Pakistan and India in Kashmir, both armies reported on March 3rd.

Indian security forces said they were carrying out mjor anti-militancy operations on their side of Kashmir and had shot dead two militants.

“By and large the LoC was calm last night but you never know when it will become active again,” said Chaudhry Tariq Farooq, a minister in Pakistani Kashmir. “Tension still prevails.“

The US Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan said that it was looking into reports that the Pakistani Air Force used US-built F-16 to down the Indian Air Force’s fighter jet. That would be a violation of Washington’s military sales agreements, which limit how Pakistan can use the fighter jets.

“We are aware of these reports and are seeking more information,” an embassy spokesperson said. “We take all allegations of misuse of defence articles very seriously.“

Pakistan denied using US F-16 in the incident. In contrast, Indian Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa was cited to have said “We have got pieces of [Pakistan’s] F-16 which we have shown.”

On March 4th he also asked “If we had dropped bombs in the jungle, why would they respond,” when asked about the effectiveness of IAF’s air strike against JeM’s alleged Balakot terror camp.

He was also asked why MiG-21 Bison was used against Pakistan’s F-16, Air Chief Marshal Dhanoa said that “MiG-21 Bison is capable, it has been upgraded, it has a better weapons system and a better radar. It is an upgraded aircraft.”

Earlier, on February 28th, Indian officials displayed to reporters parts of what they called an air-to-air missile that can only be fired from F-16 jets, alleging they were used to bomb its side of the disputed Kashmir border on the previous day.

However, in India there are concerns that the IAF’s air strike on a forest near the city of Balakot did not target militants and was simply used as a way to politicize terror.

Indian Union Minister SS Ahluwalia said that the aim of the airstrike was to send out a message that India is capable of hitting deep inside enemy lines and did not intend to inflict “any human casualty.”

Ahluwalia said neither Prime Minister Narendra Modi nor any government spokesperson had given any figure on casualty of the IAF air strikes.

“I have seen reports in Indian media and international media and also what Modi ji had said. After the air strike, there was a rally by Modi ji and he didn’t say anything on the casualty figures. I want to ask if Modi ji, or any government spokesperson, or our party president Amit Shah has given any figures?” Mr Ahluwalia told reporters.

The minister of state for electronics and information technology said the intention of the strike was to send out a message that India is capable of destruction in Pakistan’s own backyard if needed. “We didn’t want any human casualty.”

Democrats and Republicans Move to Silence Rep. Omar’s Criticism of Israel

It looks like the embattled representative from Minnesota will end up like Cynthia McKinney, who was thrown out of Congress for the sin of criticizing the official narrative on 9/11.

She is also a fierce critic of Israel and its treatment of the Palestinians (she sailed with activists on the Gaza-bound ships Dignity and Spirit of Humanity). McKinney deviated from the official narrative on Libya and she introduced articles of impeachment against President George W. Bush for committing war crimes and violating the Constitution.

Rep. Ilhan Omar was sworn in a little over a month ago and in that time fellow members of Congress and the corporate propaganda media have attacked her for “antisemitism,” that is to say criticism of the apartheid state of Israel, which is a cardinal sin for members of Congress and, for that matter, anybody else.

Both establishment Democrats and Republicans are taking turns bashing her, but the Republicans went further than simply denouncing her with strident soundbites. They have conflated her with the terror attacks of September 11, 2001.

Single Mother of Three Arrested, Thrown in Jail—Over Unpaid Medical Bill

La Porte, IN — A traffic stop for a missing sticker on her car led to a single Indiana mom’s arrest last month—after police discovered this mom was a “criminal” because she was unable to pay her medical bills.

Melissa Welch-Latronica didn’t know why police stopped her last month as she was not breaking any laws. The officer told her that she failed to put the 2019 sticker on her license plate, so he needed to see her driver’s license and registration.

As she waited for her citation over a license plate sticker—which was in her car—another cop pulled up.

“I have no felonies or anything on my record,” she recalled. “I didn’t know what was going on.”

Police then informed the single mother of three that she was going to be arrested because she had an unpaid ambulance bill from 2014 and failed to appear in court over it. Latronica had no idea how this could get her arrested and begged police to let her come to the station later as she was on her way to an extremely important meeting.

“I was cuffed behind my van, my vehicle was impounded, and I pleaded to them just let me turn in this paperwork, so I didn’t lose my home,” she said.

“Sorry ma’am,” the officer replied.

These public servants then removed the woman from her car, handcuffed her, brought her to jail, and locked her in a cage—over an unpaid medical bill.

“I was scared to death. I had never been in a jail cell. And I couldn’t afford the $1,500 bond,” Latronica told Jerry Davich with the Chicago Tribune.

“I was in a cell fit for a murderer,” she recalled. “I slept on disgusting mat on a concrete floor in a tiny room, next to a musty water drain that was more like a sewer. I was treated like a dog from staff members, served food through a door hole, and showered in an open area with actual felons.”

“I had nothing to do but stare at the four concrete walls and listen to catcalls from felons down the hall, or the vomiting from inmates going through drug withdrawals,” she said. “All this because I failed to pay off an ambulance bill. My crime was having a heart attack.”

As Davich explains:

In July 2014, Latronica was eight months pregnant with her third child when she felt dizzy while sitting on her bed. She felt her heart racing, and her lungs gasping for air. She ended up on the living room floor that day, she told me. Her husband at the time called 911. An ambulance arrived at their Portage home.

Latronica recalls paramedics placing an oxygen mask on her face in the ambulance and later staring at the hospital ceiling from an emergency room bed. She was diagnosed with a mild heart attack and later released. She survived the medical scare, gave birth to her daughter, and moved on with her life.

The ambulance bill was more than $3,000, she said.

“Ambulances are expensive. Most people know that. But most people also don’t have a choice but to take them when an emergency hits,” Latronica said.

Latronica never recalls receiving the bill, much less paying it because she had moved from Portage to La Porte shortly after. She says the bill and the notice to appear in court never made it to her new home.

“I don’t know if it was through lack of trying on the attorney’s end, or if it was my own ignorance,” Latronica said. “Either way, what happened five years later is, in my opinion, truly unacceptable.”

For an unpaid medical bill, Latronica spent the next two nights and three days in jail, away from her children, locked in a cage fit for murderers and violent criminals. She was eventually released by court order Feb. 13, according to the Porter County Sheriff’s Department.

“How silly and stupid that a single mom of three was sitting in a jail cell for three days over this petty issue,” said Latronica’s mother, Dawn Anderson.

Matt Whitaker OUT at Justice Department

Former Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker abruptly departed the Justice Department over the weekend without explanation.

A Justice Department spokesman told The Hill that Whitaker left the DOJ on Saturday but did not disclose any detail surrounding his departure or his plans going forward.

Whitaker’s abrupt departure comes just weeks after Bill Barr was confirmed as President Trump’s new Attorney General.

Whitaker was a US Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa for several years before becoming Chief of Staff to then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions in September of 2017.

Matt Whitaker was appointed Acting Attorney General following Jeff Sessions’ resignation as Attorney General in November of 2018.

Shortly after Whitaker became Acting Attorney General, the Democrats moved in for the kill because they feared he would impede on their precious Mueller inquisition.

House Democrats called in Whitaker to testify recently on the Mueller witch hunt and his communications with President Trump — Whitaker relentlessly trolled and mocked the unhinged lawmakers during the hearing.

House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler said he would be calling Whitaker back for additional testimony, alleging his answers were “unsatisfactory, incomplete or contradicted by other evidence.”
