Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (Persian , DMG Moḥammad-Reza Pahlavī [moɦæmːæd rezɑː pæɦlæviː] * October 26, 1919 in Tehran, † July 27, 1980 in Cairo) came from the dynasty of Pahlavi and was the last Iranian Shah.
After the abdication of his father Reza Shah Pahlavi in the course of the Anglo-Soviet invasion of Iran, he ascended the throne on 17 September 1941. With support from the United States, Pahlavi subsequently established an authoritarian regime, suppressing the opposition through the SAVAK intelligence service. On October 26, 1967, he crowned himself the Shahanshah ("king of kings").
The events of the Islamic Revolution under Ruhollah Khomeini led to the overthrow of the monarchy in 1979 and Pahlavi left Iran on January 16, 1979.
