Practicees receive a red chord around my neck as a blessing and I got on when I took refuge and also received

other practice completion such as the Chenrezig of Compassion, the Chud and others.

This was in the Kagyu tradition of Buddhism.

Its not occult, merely a religious ritual.

As a reminder to practice compassion and to follow the eightfold path, especially right speech and right action, in everyday life.

 

Some Buddhist traditions practice ceremonies to confer ‘blessings’ where the ritual involves a red (or white) thread, and tie a segment of the thread around the wrist of lay participants at the end, to remind them to continue the commitment
