I think you can only be elected twice, but I don't know.

There was no law for a long time. Washington set the precedent by only serving one term, and then some started serving two. FDR was elected 3 times, and then I think the 2 term rule was stoned into law.

When did these get added to the constitution?

Were they cabal in nature?

I know the single term thing is ideal, but when you think about wanting to vote for someone again but you can't because 'we' made a rule saying we can'tโ€ฆ kinda silly in the end, no?
