National Assoc of Black Journalists Calls for ‘Civil Rights Audit’ of CNN Over Black Representation

 

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is concerned about the lack of black representation within the ranks of CNN’s executive news managers and direct reports to CNN President Jeff Zucker. This concern, coupled with Zucker’s refusal to meet with a four-person NABJ delegation, has prompted NABJ to place CNN on a special media monitoring list.

 

A special team will perform further research and an analysis of CNN’s diversity, inclusion and equity practices, per the NABJ Board’s directive. The special team will also publicly report on identified deficiencies in hiring a diverse workforce in news decision-making capacities at CNN. NABJ is also calling for a civil rights audit that examines the company’s hiring, promotion and compensation practices involving black employees.

China Reduces Economic Growth Forecast, Announces Tax Cuts

Bloomberg News noted the new forecast from Premier Li Keqiang uses a range of 6 to 6.5 percent growth as the target, rather than a fixed number, giving the Chinese government “room to maneuver” and cushioning the drop from last year’s 6.5 percent target. The premier’s office broke with recent tradition by declining to offer targets for retail sales or fixed-asset investment growth.

FBI chief: Foreign influence campaigns continually targeting US

Christopher Wray warned Tuesday that foreign nations are still engaging in disinformation campaigns on social media to stir an already tense political pot in the U.S.

 

Speaking at the RSA cybersecurity conference in San Francisco, Wray said that while no influence campaign had yet made a “material impact on election infrastructure,” the efforts on social media have continued “virtually unabated,” according to CNN.

Dem says request for Trump's tax returns could come within weeks

Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.) predicted Tuesday that House Democrats will request President Trump's tax returns from the Treasury Department in the next two weeks — the latest signal that the request may be coming soon.

 

"My prediction would be the next couple of weeks," Pascrell, a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, told reporters.
