While I guess an sjw nutjob could make anything sound racist, I realize that cotton is grown still today, and I assume that many races of southern people have picked it, so I regard it as a farming reference, like 'bless your little pea-pickin' heart,' or numerous other random colloquialisms from around the country.
I mean, are liberals so racist themselves that they assume only black people do outside farm work?
Is it racist to say that someone going through a difficult time "has a tough row to hoe?"
If I were to say a certain black man who is despondent has "come to the end of his rope," would I be accused of advocating lynching?
Seriously- these leftists need to get out of their cubicles more, and breathe outside air among real human beings!
