i think that the term might also be used by EMTs when they discuss the pavement at the site of a helmetless victim of a motorcycle crash.
if it's a head trama thing, most likely we are in the post mortum stage for the victim.
you can get the helicoptor up to the site where ever the crash happened, but by the time they get to a hosiptal the patient will have already been declared dead and the evidence of it is the death blossom on the pavement.
if you've ever seen it you never forget it.
