I drop in to check where we are at, and Q is mentioning stuff I was looking at. Hanakotoba: Higanbana

Are you trying to troll me back to living on this site, Q?

Interestingly, the Red Spider Lily, or Higanbana is symbolic for lost, forgotten, or sorrowful memories.

In particular, it is also said to grow in places where two people have met once, and will never meet again. Its name comes from the name for the other side of the Japanese river of souls - "crossing over" in a sense.

The flower, itself, has many names for its varied meanings - such as one for an abandoned child…

Anyway, speaking of flowers, I have found I really like this: https://youtu.be/m3I-kAoYzf4

Speaking of child sacrifices and humans as food for gods…. To understand the history of the Miko throughout history is to understand the Magical Girl phenomenon out of Japan.

Goes well with Madoka Magica… Although Yuki Yuna actually has a bit more heinous of a lore when you think about it. There again, Madoka Magica is the superior story if you ask me. Hence the Higanbana as Homura's flower.

Though in reality I am probably just spouting a sprawling tangent of trivia. Though if there is one "deathblossom", it is the Higanbana.

Alternatively, the first hit of that specific term is from The Last Starfighter in regard to an omnidirectional weapon of mass destruction. Which… Kind of fits what the media is doing, as well. Throwing shit out there to see what sticks.

Animation of how that plays out:
