WATSONVILLE, Calif. —

Nine opium poppy flower fields have been found on the Central Coast this spring, including one discovered Tuesday in Watsonville.

Santa Cruz County Sheriff's deputies were called to a property on the 1000 block of Riverside Drive in Watsonville because someone found an opium poppy grow, deputies said.

"The property has been vacant for over 90 days and is bank-owned. Deputies found around 400 opium plants which were planted in between other weeds and plants as a disguise," the Sheriff's Office wrote.

The plants bloom bright pink flowers. And while the flowers are pretty to look at, the plants can be converted into powerful drugs, including heroin.

The largest opium poppy bust in California history recently unfolded in Monterey County as eight fields were found in Moss Landing, Aromas, and Royal Oaks.

Cmdr. John Thornburg said deputies teamed up with the California National Guard to eradicate seven flower fields between May 22-May 25. An eighth field in Moss Landing was eradicated May 13. Nearly 35,000 pounds (17 tons) of mature opium poppies were destroyed. Approximately 160,000 opium poppy plants were destroyed during this operation.

So far, the names of landowners and suspected growers have not been released by investigators.

"We will be working closely with the District Attorney's Office to seek prosecution against those responsible for these operations," Thornburg said.

Both the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office and Monterey County Sheriff's Office said their poppy investigations are ongoing.

DEATH BLOSSOM:

American military slang from the war in Iraq: the tendency of Iraqi security forces, in response to receiving a little fire from the enemy, to either run away or do the "death blossom," spraying fire indiscriminately in all directions. Reported on Globalsecurity.org

Those policemen heard one gunshot and opened up a death blossom on the whole street.

When a group of armed soldiers fire indiscriminately and kill everything in all directions.

"The incoming Fire was coming from a unknown direction so we let loose a death blossom on the street"

Death Blossom:

From the movie "The Last Starfighter", the Death Blossom is a uni-directional super weapon which fires all over the place, hitting everything within range.

If you are taking on a whole bunch of people, you could be said to be doing a "Death Blossom".

Some would say that Jessica Lynch used a "Death Blossom" to damage Neo-Cons, Feminists, the Right, and the Left, simultaneously.

Seems falling slowly. Has anyone heard we have top secret Lighter-than-air surveillance platforms that don't have to orbit like a satellite but can linger in the stratosphere wherever we want them to loiter?

Maybe a deepstate clown platforn "had a problem".
