Babiš first Czech PM to visit CIA headquarters

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš is due to visit the headquarters of the Central Intelligence Agency in Langley during his official trip to the US. Babiš is scheduled to meet CIA Director Gina Haspel to discuss the issue of international terrorism.

Before Tuesday's departure to the US, Babiš confirmed that he had been invited to the CIA's headquarters and the visit was on the schedule. However, he did not provide further information and did not confirm whether the meeting would take place on Wednesday.

Babiš said that he considers international terrorism the world's biggest threat and that cooperation on its elimination should be greater. He noted that relations between the US and Russia are not ideal.

According to the PM, the most serious problem is the six million refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey, and a solution to the situation in Syria is also a priority. "I am interested in the extent to which the US will play a role or whether they plan to leave the territory," he said.

In the official program of the Czech Prime Minister, the CIA meeting is not mentioned. Server Aktualne.cz, which first revealed the information about the meeting, referred to several sources, and a big time gap in the Wednesday program, in which the PM has nothing officially planned in the afternoon.

According to Czech diplomats, this would probably be the first time the president or prime minister of the Czech Republic will visit the headquarters of the US intelligence service, Aktualne.cz noted.

On Thursday evening, Central European time, Babiš is to meet US President Donald Trump, with whom he will discuss cybersecurity, the international situation, and maintaining barrier-free trade between the United States and the European Union. Babiš is the first Czech prime minister in eight years to receive an invitation to bilateral meetings at the White House.
