Spravato (esketamine) is the new antidepressant that had made notables the last couple of days by (((Johnson and Johnson))).
Ketamine was something that interested me previously because of symbolism associated with the infusion clinics that started popping up. The practice was lauded by Harvard who held continued education training in the procedure. Posts from months ago:

This is going to be a TLDR post for many, but that's ok. It's in the bread now.
Basics first:
Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic. They distort perception and provide feeling of detachment.
Ketamine is an analog of PCP (Phencyclidine- Angel dust).
Discovered in 1962 by Calvin Stevens, Parke Davis Laboratories.
FDA approval in 1970.
Calvin Stevens was combing the planet for chemicals to study and doing so under the claim of Cancer Research and promoting government funding of such research. Pic related.
Parke Davis was Americas oldest pharmaceutical company, and at one time world's largest. Most recently a part of Pfizer.
Parke Davis was highly involved in the production of the formaldehyde (carcinogenic) killed polio vaccine and had exculsive rights of production until the agreement was later terminated. Their association with the developer of the polio vaccine Jonas Salk should be of note as well. Jonas was the eldest son of Orthodox Jewish-Polish immigrants, Jonas Edward Salk was born in East Harlem, New York, on October 28, 1914. He was involved not only with polio vaccine development, but killed influenza, and late in life he studied HIV. He wrote several books toward the end of his life discussing the human population such as:
WORLD POPULATION AND HUMAN VALUES: A NEW REALITY
Where extrapolating the S shaped curve of population growth of organisms, he discussed values at the various locations of the curve-
quantity of children (lower) vs. quality of children (upper)- which sounds a lot like eugenics speak.
But back to ketamine. Ketamine was stated to have been developed as anaaesthetic, but was studied significantly early on as a model of schizophrenia due to the effects on the central nervous system.
Since it does not significantly alter blood pressure or heart,/respiration rates, it is an anesthetic of choice in many battle field situations and 3rd world countries. Also advocated for use during travel.
It is on the World Heath Organization list of essential medications.
The media stated esketamine is a cousin of ketamine. That's untrue. Ketamine is a racemic solution- a solution made up of 2 mirrored chemicals (S-Ketamine and R-Ketamine). Think of a pair of hands, they look exactly alike only mirrored. But that mirror difference is important. Rather you are left or right handed, only one will fit in your baseball glove. Esketamine is pure (S- Ketamine).
S-Ketamine is a stronger anesthetic than R and has less halucinagenic effects.
The pure esketamine is new to the US, but has been used in the EU.
It's onset of action is quick and half life is rather short 1-2 hours.
