I remember that when it first opened it was cheaper to fly somewhere else, near by, even if it took you through the Denver Air Port.

Back then you could use your tickets to a leg of a flight, or not use them. So people would fly somewhere else and then just neglect to take the last leg of the flight. And have a different set of tickets to use another time. But it was over 20 years ago so my recollection of it is very old. And I have no sauce except for gossip while on a trip with someone who chatted on about the Denver Air Port boondoggle and the way that travellers were being exploited through very high air port fees.
