Rahm Emanuel Slams Ilhan Omar: Sheā€™s Associating with ā€˜Calamitiesā€™ of the Holocaust

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D) slammed Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) in an opinion-editorial for The Atlantic Thursday, writing that by repeatedly trafficking in antisemitic tropes, she is associating herself with ā€œcalamities from the Spanish Inquisition to the Russian pogroms to the Holocaust.ā€

Omar is under fire for suggesting last week that pro-Israel groups pressure lawmakers to pledge ā€œallegianceā€ to the Jewish state. Emanuelā€™s criticism of Omar comes as House Democrat leadership struggle to agree on the contents of a resolution condemning antisemitism. The Chicago mayor, who has previously faced similar accusations of dual loyalty, offers up stern rebuke of Omar in contrast to 2020 Democrat presidential candidates, such as Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Kama Harris (D-CA), who claim condemning the freshman congresswoman would make her a ā€œtargetā€ and stifle public policy debates.

Emanuel writes:

Iā€™m all for new voices in the U.S. Congress. But lately, some of those new voices have been voicing some very old canards.

Iā€™m talking about Representative Ilhan Omar, one of the newly elected Democrats who populate the 116th Congress. Omar has attracted much news coverage, and the condemnation of most of her fellow Democrats, for promoting some ugly tropes about Jews.

First, when questioning long-standing congressional support for Israel, she blamed the campaign money provided by pro-Israel supporters. ā€œItā€™s all about the Benjamins, baby,ā€ she tweeted.

After apologizing for that comment and acknowledging her need to be ā€œeducated,ā€ she followed with another tweet, questioning the ā€œallegianceā€ of supporters of Israel, intimating that we place the concerns of Israel above those of the country that we call home.

No one is questioning the right of members of Congress and others to criticize Israeli policies. But Omar is crossing a line that should not be crossed in political discourse. Her remarks are not anti-Israel; they are anti-Semitic.

Zuckerbergā€™s new ā€˜privacy-focused visionā€™ for Facebook is just PR and damage control

Mark Zuckerberg is on a mission to rehabilitate Facebook's image. The CEO announced his new ā€œprivacy-focused visionā€ for the social media platform this week ā€“ but it looks more like a PR stunt than anything else.

ā€œPrivacy gives people the freedom to be themselves and connect more naturally, which is why we build social networks,ā€ Zuckerberg wrote. Now, is there anyone who really believes Facebook was built to give people ā€œthe freedom to be themselves?ā€

Zuckerberg does understand, however, why people are questioning Facebookā€™s newfound commitment to privacy, ā€œā€¦because frankly we donā€™t currently have a strong reputation for building privacy protective services.ā€ For a company plagued with privacy scandal after privacy scandal, that seems like a bit of an understatement.

Still, reading through Zuckerbergā€™s grand vision for a new kind of privacy-focused Facebook, we are given the impression that the company is about to completely revamp itself from top to bottom ā€“ but the only real concrete change proposed is one that critics are already saying might not enhance privacy that much and isnā€™t even really motivated by privacy concerns at all.

Essentially, Zuckerberg plans to integrate Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram direct messages to build a kind of single, end-to-end messaging system (which weā€™ve actually known-about since January). This change is because he now believes ā€œthe future of communication will increasingly shift to private, encrypted services where people can be confident what they say to each other stays secure.ā€

Feds Pay Millions for Lobster Tail, Booze, Toys in End of Year Spending Binge

Taxpayer-funded spending spree totals $97 billion

Federal agencies billed taxpayers millions for lobster tail, alcohol, standing desks, golf carts, and more frivolous expenditures before budgets ran out at the end of the fiscal year.

A new analysis released by OpenTheBooks.com found 66 agencies spent $97 billion last September, the final month of fiscal year 2018. The end of the year taxpayer-funded spending spree included contracts with Coors, millions on iPhones, furniture, and CrossFit equipment.

"In the final month of the fiscal year, federal agencies scramble to spend what's left in their annual budget," OpenTheBooks.com said. "Agencies worry spending less than their budget allows might prompt Congress to appropriate less money in the next fiscal year. To avoid this, federal agencies choose to embark on an annual shopping spree rather than admit they can operate on less."

Resulting government expenditures included $4.6 million on lobster tail and crab; $673,471 on golf carts; $1.7 million on pianos, tubas, and trombones; $9.8 million on workout and recreation equipment; and $7.7 million iPhones and iPads.

A Wexford Leather club chair cost taxpayers $9,241. The government spent $293,245 on rib eye, top sirloin, and flank steak.

Before budgets ran out national security agencies, including the Department of Defense, Department of State, and Department of Homeland Security spent $412,008 on paint and artist's brushes.

The federal government spent $2.1 million on games, toys, and wheeled goods, $490.6 million on furniture, and $62.1 million on household furnishings. Bureaucrats spent $1.1 million on standing desks, as well as $2.7 million on ergonomic chairs, $643,833 on sofas, and $40,379 on clocks.

The government's PR budget also did not suffer, as agencies spent $462 million on public relations and marketing in the final month of the fiscal year.

Agencies spent $402 million on food, including the Pentagon, which spent $2.3 million on snow crab, Alaskan king crab, and crab legs, and $2.3 million on lobster tail. The Pentagon and Department of State spent $308,994 on alcohol, including a $76,173 contract with Coors Brewing Company.

The total $97 billion spent in September 2018 amounts to a 16 percent increase from the previous year. Similarly, last year's end of the budget spending binge included millions spent on cars, scooters, fidget spinners, and shuffleboards.

More than half of the spending came during the final week before budgets ran out.

"In the final seven days of the fiscal year, agencies ramped up their spending to a total $53 billionā€”that's more than they spent in the entire month of August," OpenTheBooks.com said.

"As the national debt surpasses $22 trillion, it's time to end Washington's use-it-or-lose-it spending culture," the watchdog group concluded. "Ending this wasteful phenomenon would go a long way toward generating big savings and winning the public's trust."

Nevada Bill Will Allow Police To Search Everyone's Smartphone

For years the push to replace physical drivers licenses with digital drivers licenses has relied one one thing; privacy. But all of the "fake news" the public has been fed about their privacy is about to come "crashing" down, literally.

A Nevada bill if passed would allow police to search everyone's smartphones.

Nevada bill AB200 allows police to search the phones of everyone involved in a car crash.

"An act relating to motor vehicles; authorizing a peace officer at the scene of a traffic crash to use technology to determine if a driver was using a handheld wireless communications device at the time of the crash; requiring the suspension of the driverā€™s license of a driver who refuses a request by a peace officer to use such technology; providing penalties;and providing other matters properly."

Does anyone still believe that once a cop uses a CellBrite to spy on your phone or discovers your smartphone's unique MAC address that they will not track you in the future? If retail stores can track customers MAC address's without a warrant don't you think police will too?

The bill states that motorists give up their rights simply by driving in Nevada.

"Section 1 further provides that any person who operates a vehicle in this State is deemed to have given consent to the use of an investigate technology device on the handheld wireless communications device when requested by a peace officer at the scene of a crash. If a person refuses such a request, the peace officer is required to seize the driverā€™s license or permit of the person and issue an order suspending the license or permit for 90 days."

What does this mean? If you are granted the privilege to drive by the government you agree to give up your Fourth Amendment right against being searched without probable cause. Do you still think America is the land of the free?
