Official FEC Complaint Alleges Rep. Ocasio-Cortez Laundered Money Through PAC to Provide Campaign Funds to Boyfriend

The Coolidge-Reagan Foundation filed official complaint before the Federal Election Commission on February 27 that accuses Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of laundering money through a PAC to provide campaign funds for her boyfriend Riley Roberts.

On February 15th TGP contributor Cassandra Fairbanks reported on reporter Luke Thompson’s accusations that Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) put her boyfriend on staff drawing a salary on the taxpayer’s dime. Twitter temporarily suspended Thompson for making the accusations.

Boyfriend Riley Roberts is listed in the congressional directory as staff, not as a boyfriend or spouse.

The Coolidge-Reagan Foundation accuses Ocasio-Cortez of using a PAC to pay her boyfriend. The court document accuses AOC of funneling money from her official campaign account to her boyfriend.

According to the FEC suit: Over the span of a little more than a month, AOC’s campaign committee paid just over $6,000 to Brand New Congress PAC, while its affiliated LLC turned around and paid her boyfriend $6,000. Ocasio-Cortez subsequently hired Chakrabarti, who created the entities which conducted these transactions and facilitated the transfer of Ocasio-Cortez’s official campaign funds to her boyfriend, as the Chief of Staff of her congressional office.

A copy of the lawsuit from the Coolidge-Reagan Foundation is posted below.

The Washington Times reported:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was hit Thursday with an ethics complaint for listing her live-in boyfriend as a staff member and getting him an official House email address.

The liberal superstar violated at least two provisions of the House Code of Official Conduct and possibly U.S. criminal law by making false statements about boyfriend Riley Roberts being a staff member, according to the complaint by the conservative Coolidge Reagan Foundation.

“AOC has gotten away with utter hypocrisy for far too long. The Coolidge Reagan Foundation will do whatever it takes to expose AOC’s transgressions and hold her accountable,” said Shaun McCutcheon, the chairman of the foundation. “We’re going to actively monitor AOC’s campaign finance reports and congressional actions to push back on her un-American, anti-speech agenda.”

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, New York Democrat, has denied any wrongdoing and accused conservative groups of targeting her.

The congresswoman’s office has said that Mr. Roberts is not a staff member and receives the same benefits as spouses, including a House email address.

Household Net Worth Tumbles By $3.7 Trillion, First Drop In 4 Years

In the Fed's latest Flow of Funds report released at noon today, the Fed published the latest snapshot of the US "household" sector as of Dec 31, 2018. What it revealed is that with $120.4 trillion in assets and a modest $16.1 trillion in liabilities, the net worth of US households dipped to $104.3 trillion, its first drop after 12 consecutive quarters of increases, and down $3.7 trillion as a result of the near-bear market in the fourth quarter, which wiped out estimated $4 trillion in various financial assets like corporate equities, mutual and pension funds, and deposits after the market tumbled in Q4, offset by a $345 billion increase in tangible assets, of which $280 billion was in real estate values.

Total household assets in Q4 dropped 3.7 trillion to $120.4 trillion, the first drop since Q3 2015, while at the same time total liabilities, i.e., household borrowings, rose by $133 billion from $15.9 trillion to $16.1 trillion, the bulk of which was $10.3 trillion in home mortgages. Homeowners’ real estate holdings minus the change in mortgage debt rose by $223 billion (a positive number means that the value of real estate is growing at a faster pace than household mortgage debt).

The breakdown of the total household balance sheet as of Q4 is shown below.

Trump Ex-Campaign Manager Manafort Given 47 Months in Prison

Paul Manafort, political consultant and former election campaign manager for US President Donald Trump, has been sentenced to just shy of four years in prison for financial crimes. He is expected to serve only 38 more months because of time already spent behind bars. Manafort was also ordered to pay a $50,000 fine.

Judge T.S. Ellis III of the United States District Court in Alexandria, Virginia, ruled that the 70-year-old Manafort, who once served as campaign chairman of Trump's 2016 presidential election campaign, will serve only a tiny fraction of the time in prison prosecutors sought.

During comments prior to his sentencing, Manafort told the court that his life is "professionally and financially in shambles."

"To say I have been humiliated and ashamed would be a gross understatement," he continued.

"I appreciate the fairness" of this court during the proceedings, Manafort reportedly told Ellis, speaking from a wheelchair. "You bent over backwards… Thank you for a fair trial… I ask you to be compassionate."

The judge consented, noting that the recommended sentence of 19-24 years was, in his view, "excessive."

Ellis began the sentencing hearing by noting that "we are not here for Russian collusion," CNN reported. Indeed, none of the crimes Manafort has been charged with include any type of collusion: all deal with financial crimes such as bank fraud, money laundering and tax evasion, related to his time as a political consultant working for clients in Ukraine.

Ellis made it clear early in the August 2018 trial that he wouldn't tolerate political games in his courtroom.
