The most obvious difficulties in reading/understanding scripture is the way it's constructed. It's automatically geared so that people resist.
All scriptures speak to every person, actually unto and for their life, not eternal torture in fire if we sin, which we all do, constantly. Matt. 4:4, Luke 4:4
The real question is what is a person in the scriptures?
To "hear" we have to listen to Jesus on just exactly what or who is a person. And part of what that person quite falsely thinks is only themselves, actually can not listen/hear or see/read. Here we get a real picture of what a person is in the scriptures:
Mark 4:
15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.
If you think it's just you, alone, with freewill between your own two ears, you're not listening. Well, not you exactly. You just think it's only you.
2 Corinthians 11:3
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
Paul got the picture. Well, at least part of him did. 2 Cor. 12:7
Scripture will never be agreed upon by anyone. The system is set up that way, by God. He's put us all under the influence and we're generally incognizant of this internal reality.
Romans 11:32
For God has bound everyone over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.
Christians are actually the last people who would believe any of the above. They'd deny it til their dying breath. Even though we all have sin and sin is of the devil, plain as can be. 1 John 3:8
