http://www.thedrive.com/news/26785/malaysia-airlines-flight-370-5-years-later-the-crucial-clue-all-the-mh370-investigators-overlooked

Summary of article: The only clue leading investigators to the theory of MH370 flying south into the open ocean was navigational trace data imprinted on pings sent to an Inmarsat satellite. This was the only communications device active on the plane, and apparently it was intentionally turned on immediately after the plane left radar coverage. The author speculates that the Inmarsat data was a fake lead intentionally planted by someone who understood how an apparent flight path could be deduced by analysts from this signal, and that the plane went somewhere else entirely. If true, this points to a very sophisticated effort to both conceal the plane's actual flight path and destination, and to lead investigators into an expensive and time consuming search somewhere else. This leads to questions regarding who could have had the necessary knowledge, and what was the motivation.

Why is it a slide? I know MH-370 is a controversial topic, but this article points to a very specific anomaly that I have never seen mentioned before. To me, this seems like a crack in a smokescreen, not a slide.
