Air Transat Flight 942, a Boeing 737, was on its way from Montreal to Fort Lauderdale around 8:20 a.m. when the pilot reported smoke in the aircraft and requested the emergency landing, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and a Port Authority Police spokesman.

The plane landed on Runway 4 and remained there while airport firefighters responded — and all 189 passengers were evacuated via emergency slides, officials said.
