I haven't actually watched the movie, but I get a feeling that Q is our captain teaching us how to be Americans again aboard the ship USS America. We have been trained and prepped to handle whatever the sea can throw at us. Watch the water. The white squall gives little to no indication of when it's going to hit, but hit it does. And hard.
