Ethiopia Crash

Initial analysis of flight from the FlightRadr24 track details -

Plane appears to have taken off normally climbing out and reaching an altitude of 8150ft over the outskirts of the built up area of Addis Ababa. pic1

The plane then levelled off and lost some height whilst accelerating. 7825ft 300 - 377knots. pic 2 & 3

The plane climbed to 8600ft & 383kts just before impact with terrain. pic 4

At the impact location the map indicates it is close to the 2600metre contour line (2600m = 8530ft)

According to Aviation Herald the captain had around 8000hrs experience & copilot around 200hrs.

The plane was taking off from the airlines home base so the crew should have been well aware of the local terrain yet it appears as if they took no action to avoid the terrain.

Images on the Aviation Herald page do not show any large sections of the plane.

Checked the post - this is not unsual almost certainly a different crew for each flight. No mention of problems with the previous flight.

The video clip in this link -(https://www.sowetanlive.co.za/news/south-africa/2019-03-10-johannesburg-link-to-downed-ethiopian-plane-no-south-africans-on-board/)

  • says that the plane had unstable airspeed but it appears to be pretty stable acceleration in the clip.
