It endangers people's lives when media hoaxes are allowed to persist. CNN regularly endangers American citizens who don't fit it's "approved" political orientation. I approve of Nicholas Sandmann's lawsuit against CNN. I'd like to point out that false information should be prosecutable when it was done with malice, for profit, or as a consequence of irresponsible journalism (failing to corroborate basic facts). As an example, Merck continues to market an HPV vaccine which is given to millions. However, Gardasil has been credibly shown to be associated with premature ovarian failure (putting teenage girls into menopause) and the development of autoimmune disease. When facts are denied or suppressed, parents may accept an intervention that could sterilize or maim their child. Media outlets whose "voice" is heard by millions of people and which carry the cachet of being "credible" MUST be prosecuted when they substitute opinion or bias for facts.
