I think a more accurate description is:
We are the new News Aggregators now.
We've taken over the all the news that's fit to print role from the others that hide stuff that's truly important.
Keep in mind there's still a traditional news organization that did the legwork on that story.
We haven't taken on the role of on the ground reporting (yet).
