Making an attempt to flip the chess board is the only thing they have left. They have already made all the wrong mistakes and their only option is surrender peacefully and hope they get a life sentence or try to overturn the government in a coup and end back up on top. For a lot of them they rather die then rot in a cage.
Could happen? Will happen, question is when and that is when their empire collapses for the world to see.
