When you hear about extremely large MCEs, or Mass Coronal Ejections, then these people will head to those bunkers. But, at that point, you shouldn't be worried about that. You should be worried about the lighting that will fall like rain, as a result of the Sun's MCEs. A Geologist on JRE explained it like, "1000 hurricanes". Not only that, but the increase in radiation would kill you in about 6-7 days. Cool huh?
This apparently happens on Earth about every 12,000 years. Guess what part of that cycle we're in? In 1859, a phenomena happened called the Carrington-effect. An MCE disrupted or knocked-out nearly everything electric. And it WILL happen again… Unless you live underground, or have a bunker or something, you will be fucked.
