Prosecutors Seek to Drop Murder Charge Against Suspect in Kim Jong Nam Murder
In August 2018, a Malaysian court ruled that it had enough evidence against Indonesian national Siti Aisyah, 26, and Vietnamese citizen Doan Thi Huong, 29, to charge them with killing Kim Jong-nam, and ordered the pair to enter their defence.
Malaysian prosecutors have applied to drop murder charge against an Indonesian national Siti Aisyah, 26, accused of killing the half-brother of North Korean leader, Reuters reported. Siti Aisyah has reportedly been released from custody and was seen getting into an embassy car after leaving court.
The trial of the Indonesian suspect was suspended in December as her lawyers argued with prosecutors over access to statements made by witnesses, Reuters reported.
On February 13, 2017, Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, travelling by the name of Kim Chol, was killed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, before boarding a flight to Macau.
Malaysian investigators suspected that he was killed with the VX nerve agent. The substance is listed as a chemical weapon in the Chemical Weapons Convention and classified by the United Nations as a weapon of mass destruction.
