I fought school board too with my Son in 1983. They were trying their best to pressure me into putting my son on Ritalin. The teachers couldn't handle his hyperactivity-he was just a fun loving active 2nd grader. When I wouldn't put him on the drugs, they used another tactic. They said since I refuse their advice, they would send him to another school (40 minutes further). I fought them tooth and nail, and won. The damned teacher had to deal with him. They appeared in front of the board and indicated that he was borderline retarded. I was hurt and furious. Now that Son is a CPA and owns 3 HVAC companies in the same town. The stinkin' 2nd grade teacher that said he was borderline retarded, is now one of his customers. Like a good businessman, he doesn't treat her badly, but I gain much satisfaction knowing that she sees what he has become. Not to mention the fact that she was 'dead wrong' about her diagnosis of him. I feel that in late 70's and early 80's teachers started becoming lazy and I suspected propped up by the unions. Worthless teachers were retained as the unions protected them. They were not held accountable for their actions and lost the love of teaching all students
