Churches' Challenge To Required Abortion Health Care Coverage Rejected
In Foothill Church v. Rouillard, (ED CA, March 7, 2019). a California federal district court dismissed a suit brought by three churches challenging a ruling by the California Department of Managed Health Care that requires health insurance companies to include coverage for abortion services in all health insurance policies. Rejecting the churches' Free Exercise claim, the court held that the churches have not alleged sufficient facts to call into question the defense that the ruling is a neutral law of general applicability. It also rejected the churches' equal protection claim saying that there was no showing that the state acted with the intent to adversely affect plaintiffs' religious beliefs.

A fire broke out at roughly 1pm at the Qawra Palace Hotel • Guests were evacuated and some treated for smoke inhalation • Seven fire engines and two ambulances are on site
Guests at the Qawra Palace Hotel have been evacuated after a fire broke out at the hotel.
Some guests could be seen being treated for smoke inhalation at a medical post set up in the area. The cause of the fire is as yet unknown.

Australia bans Boeing 737 MAX jets
Australia and Singapore on Tuesday banned Boeing 737 MAX planes from their airspace and airlines around the world grounded the jets following a second deadly accident in just five months.
On Sunday a new Ethiopian Airlines 737 MAX 8 went down minutes into a flight to Nairobi, killing all 157 people on board. It came after a Lion Air jet of the same model crashed in Indonesia in October, killing 189.
Investigators have recovered the black box flight recorders from the Ethiopian Airlines plane, which went down near Addis Ababa carrying passengers and crew from 35 countries – including some two dozen UN staff.
US regulators have ordered Boeing to make urgent improvements to the model and insisted they would take action if safety issues are detected.

High Court delivers landmark verdict, declares Turag as living being
n a historic verdict, the High Court on Wednesday declared the Turag River as a legal/juristic person or a living being to save the river from illegal encroachment.
In its partial judgment, the HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice M Ashraful Kamal said Bangladesh, i.e. the humankind will fall in danger if rivers cannot be protected from encroachment and navigability problem.
The court will deliver the rest of the judgment on Thursday with important directives to save the rivers.
The court verdict came a day after experts and green activists demanded that the rivers be recognised as living being for saving those.

Trump Will Strip California Of Its Ability To Regulate CO2 From Cars
The Trump administration is done trying to negotiate with California, and will move forward with plans to revoke the state of its authority to set tougher fuel efficiency standards.
“At this point, we have to move to finalize,” Andrew Wheeler, head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), stated in a Monday interview with the Washington Examiner. “We don’t have time to move to reopen [negotiations]. We tried to work with California, but we were just not able to. In California, politics was playing the bigger hand than the policy.”
The EPA will introduce its final proposal sometime this spring that strips a waiver California and other states have long used to set tougher vehicle emission standards than the federal government, forcing every state in the U.S. to comply with the same rules

On Monday, Google software engineer Mike Wacker published an email he received from a fellow Google employee. That employee recounted a discussion with his manager in which the manager said Donald Trump won the 2016 election thanks to fake news and hate speech.
"I posted a comment on a meme regarding fake news on Search and someone reported it to HR. I didn’t say I was in favor or against, just cautioned that we need to be carful [sic]," the anonymous employee wrote. "My manager brought it up in our 1:1 last week. Surprise as leader Kim Jong-un 'not on ballot'
North Korea's election has resulted in the expected landslide win for its authoritarian leadership - but in a big first for the country, Kim Jong-un does not appear to have been on the ballot.
If confirmed, it would be the first time a North Korean leader has not run for its rubberstamp parliament. The vote did see his sister, Kim Yo-jong, elected to the body, however.
The leader's younger sibling has been gradually moving into a more influential role.
North Korea's parliamentary election is used by Pyongyang to legitimise its rule, but is condemned internationally as a meaningless exercise. Each voting slip has only one state-approved candidate on it.
State media announced the names of the 687 deputies elected to the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) on Tuesday, but Mr Kim's name was not read out.
